It is a satire which sets out to present the events of the Russian Revolution through the eyes of simplicity. The idea of animals developing into a communist society manages to criticize the humanity, or lack of it, through means that are subliminal to the human perception. When animals kill each other on a farm, the reader does not perceive the evils of men for it is the core of nature that animals kill each other. The massacres portrayed in the book are as powerful as they can be, but are limited by the perception of animals. When humans kill each other, everyone can understand the cruelty, the brutality of taking someone’s life. But when humans are used to butchering animals for their very own cravings and necessities, the message of the book manages to hide itself from the obvious. Even when the book is an obvious “homage” to the Russian Revolution, many readers misinterpret it as simply that. Most don’t understand that the brutality and nature of the animals in their quest for survival and place in society is actually referring to the same brutality in human beings. This is the power of the book through its simplicity and “innocence”.
Animal farm is more than an allegory, its a literary critique about political injustice. Napoleon is a prime example of political injustice because he uses his dogs to take out all opposition of his leadership. The story uses animals in order to represent how and why the revolution started. It also displays the difficulties and challenges the reforms might have had. In Animal Farm, the conflict is based on the ruling of a farm. In this allegory, the corruption, the power-hunger, the lies and the laws often are the catalysts of the major problems. This is similar to what happened in Russia, when Lenin’s follower; Stalin, centralized all the economic and political power and later eventually converted The Soviet Union into a totalitarian state. The use of fear, violence and strong nationalism is also similar in both cases, making the second one (Animal Farm) be an allegory of the Russian Revolution and all of its conflicts.
Animal Farm is an allegory. An allegory is a representation of an abstract meaning through concrete or material form. Animal Farm uses the animals and their situations to show real life circumstances, specifically the events leading up to World War II. His characters even represented a few of the main instigators in Russia that helped spur the war. Some of the people he represents are Stalin, Trotsky, and Lenin. In Animal Farm he uses an allegory to show these people’s different methods and to show what happened and to demonstrate some of the madness that they carried out. But the book leans more towards the selfishness of Stalin and the things that he went through to have things go exactly his way. It is also an eye opening allegory of the Russian revolution. It grabs a very important topic, sometimes hard to understand for people and converts it into simple reading, in which everyone can understand. It is a simpler way to look at a complex issue. I like the way the author uses examples of animals to demonstrate what it was like in the Russian Revolution. The fact that farm animals are only used for food and aren’t treated as well as they should be, keeps the reader interested and begins to think about how it is true. I find it funny, that animals took over a farm, but when I think about it in the way that it is an allegory, I am astonished at what really happened in real life. Bravo Mr. Orwell
Alright Jaime,

Animal Farm is an interpretation of sources in which the author describes the Russian Revolution of 1917 in his own imagination. Gathering information, the author decides to portray the most important characters of the revolution as animals. With the creativity and uniqueness of one’s total imagination, the author is able to maneuver the Russian Revolution and tell it in his perspective; resulting as an amazing piece of work. Although not fully accurate, its a way in which one as a reader can understand the revolution much better. The allegory itself makes it easier and much more entertaining to read rather than to read history itself. Animal Farm is unique, fascinating, and over all a piece of work that turns history into something fun to read.
Carlos,

The pig Old Major depicts Lenin because of his speech of revolution and change calling for equality upon Mr. Jones, the head of the farm, or in this case, the Czar. The pigs Napoleon and Snowball represent Stalin and Trotsky, fighting to be the head of the Communist Party (or in this case, the Animal Farm) by giving and maintaining orders and speeches to the rest of the animals. In addition, the pigs have Old Major’s skull cleaned and placed where the other animals can see him and praise his ideology, parallel to having Lenin’s body preserved and in public. The animals form a strong union under equality as seen in their rule that all animals are equal, however, the pigs appear to be more equal than the rest of the animals, just as Stalin rivaled Trotsky. Napoleon has Snowball flee by the use dogs, parallel to the secret police enforcing his will, just as Stalin kicks Trotsky out of the country and sends his men to kill him. Thus, because of the parallel events and characters, Animal Farm is an allegory of the beginning of communism development in U.S.S.R.
Thanks Daniel,
