It was telling about global warming in the earth, and in 2050 the sea will be 20% off because of global warming. And i remember the famous quote in there, ¨Keep the environment for your children¨. That sentence just hit me because i never thought about my children, and my offspring. One of the films that I have watched that have a social message is that Disney classic, “ The Hunchback of Norte Dame”. This classic is about a hunchback that is treated as a monster. He has to hide in the top of the church where nobody can be able to see him. The main point and the drama of the story is that this poor man is treated awfully by everyone. At one point in the movie Quasimodo (the hunchback) leaves his secret hiding spot and goes out to the public. When all the people in the plaza see him they start throwing tomatoes at him. The social message for the first part of the movie is to treat other equally. At the end of this movie Quasimodo gets accepted in the society. A movie in which there is a social message can be “Beauty and the Beast”. The social message that I think it sends its viewers is that appearances isn’t everything, what is inside is what really matters. In the movie the girl fell in love with the beast that was very scary looking and he was like three times the girl in size. The beast was very mean in the beginning of the movie because he was mad because he used to be a man and then some witch turned him into the beast because he was mean and selfish, she gave him a rose and told him that when the last petal falls he will stay like the beast forever. Unless he made someone love him for who he is and not for what he is or how he looks like. So when they met, she was being followed by a lot of wolves and he saved her from them. After he saved her he took her as her prisoner. When she was in his castle, because the best was a prince, she found out that everyone who lived in the house was turned into something, like a clock or a sofa. The more time that she was in the castle, the beast started learning how to treat people nicely instead of treating them bad. Everyone who lived in the town close to the castle thought that the beast had kidnapped the girl, so they went to invade the castle and rescue her. The beast was fighting a man who was trying to rescue her and he got stabbed by him, but the girl went to him and before the last petal fell she told him that she loves him and he sort of revived, because he was almost dead, and turned into the man he used to be. The movie teaches something very important because right now people look for appearances instead of how the person is, and the movie teaches us that we shouldn’t look for that. It basically is a message involving values that can make the readers aware of a situation so they can learn from it and benefit to becoming a better person. One of my favorite movies is called “ The Ultimate Gift”, and it had a very impacting message on me. People are sometimes carried away by the benefits of money, not realizing happiness is found in the simplest things in life. Even though you may be rich in wealth it may be you are poor in happiness. Jason Stevens is the main character in this movie. His grandfather was one of the richest men in the world, and when he died all his family was more interested in the money he left, rather than to keep the legacy of the great man he was. All his grandsons were spoiled, and their lives were centralized in the world of money. They never had to work for anything, and they were never said no to. When Jason goes to claim his money, he is surprised when he notices he is left with a “ gift” rather than a check. His gift was based in a series of tasks based on teachings his grandfather wanted Jason to learn. The first teaching was to take all the economical help away from him. When he was homeless, all his “friends” had no interest in helping him instead they stopped talking to him. He realized he had no friends at all; all of his contacts were with him because of their interest to his money. Through out the plot he faces other harsh situations, which make him a better person. He started working as a farmer, and he faced other tasks, which made him experience a not so luxurious life. However, he realized it made him happier the person he had become, rather than the person he used to be. When he recovered the final gift from his grandfather, which was the money he had left for him. Jason knew by then money was not essential for long-term happiness. So he decided to donate the money to a cause for children who did need it.
Thanks,

It can be transmitted in many ways, but mostly through books and movies. A book that has a strong social message is Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. This is a science fiction book about creating a "perfect world". The way this "perfect world" is created is by giving every single 16 year old a surgery to make him or her physically beautiful. The person is completely transformed, unrecognizable. After they undergo the surgery, their brains are transformed. As the scientists call it, they make them "bubbly"; they get rid of all their worries and opinions, making them beautiful, brainless zombies. Shay, the main character, and her friends have looked forward to the day they turn 16 since they were born. They have been told that once they turn 16, their life will be perfect, they will be "Pretties". Shay undergoes her physical transformation, but something goes wrong and she does not get turned "bubbly". She is taken to the bubbly world of the "Pretties" where people's only worry is what they will wear. Because she was not turned "bubbly" she realizes what this world really is; its not perfect, its actually all the opposite. Shay wants more from life, she would do anything to go back to the "Ugly" world where people had ideas and opinions, where they were not perfect. This book transmits a social message, that being pretty and having no worries will not make you happy, it will only make you feel empty. This book teaches us that having challenges and imperfections are what make you strive to succeed, without this, you have no point in life.
Thanks Sol,

An example of a social message that is delivered to the audience is in the movie “The Blind Side”. The story of this movie consists of a homeless and traumatized African American adolescent called Michael Oher. Michael has no idea who his father is, and his mother is a crack head. He also has a small amount of formal education and he also has few skills to learn. Luckily for him, Mrs. Leigh Anne Tuohy becomes in charge of helping the young man succeed, and when she finds out his great interest in football, she believes that he might get a Football scholarship to get an opportunity to study. In order for him to study, she welcomes him into her familys’ lovely home, she pays a tutor for him to improve his grades, and she also pays a private school for him to study in. At the end of the movie, he works hard, and accomplishes his goals. Michael becomes an All-American offensive left tackle, and is able to study in the University that he wants. This is Michel Oher’s story.

However, this movie doesn’t only demonstrate Michel Oher’s story, it delivers a social message. The producer of the movie wants to reflect that there is a great majority of people in the United States that need help and support from people that are more educated. He also reflects that there is a small percentage of people in the United States who care about helping the unfortunate, and reach out their hands to lift them up and help them accomplish their dreams, such as Leigh Anne Tuohy. The producer demonstrates that if people with a better education reach out for people that don’t have as much opportunities, the misfortunate people might have the opportunity to pursue their dreams and reach their potential. This movie definitely inspires the audience to pour some effort in helping the misfortunate, and inspires the audience to realize that anything is possible if a community has a willing heart to help each other.
Great Melanie,

In those times women depended on a husband. They were expected to grow up study find the "perfect person" for them and get married have children and be a stay at home mom.So that's when Katherine decides to challenge her students to break that cycle and for them to be independent and to actually have a chance to go to college. And throughout the movie she helps a student names Joan to get into law school. But Joan decides to ignore what she really wants and gets married, so she doesn't break the cycle and she doesn't fall out of society. This movie is about a teacher encouraging women to think for themselves and for them to be dependent and to actually make choices that they want to do in their future that's going to benefit them. It's about female students being encouraged to pursue what they want and not to do what society expect. This social message is very important because I think that girls are suppose to stand up for what they want. In the 50’s when the rights of the women weren’t that important and that they had to learn that they did have a voice and they will/could have a future if they were on their own without a men by their side.
Thanks,

Her principal asks her to seek coaching from an English professor named Dr. Larabee for the more prestigious regional bee. As the possibility of making it all the way to the Scripps National Spelling Bee looms, Akeelah could provide her community with someone to rally around and be proud of -- but only if she can overcome her insecurities and her distracting home life. She also must get past Dr. Larabee's demons, and a field of more experienced and privileged fellow spellers. Akeelah has a large disadvantage to the other kids because her family hasn’t paid much attention to her gifts or her needs to become a champion at the spelling bee, but Dr. Larabee does recognize her talent and he wants to help her succeed. Usually it serves as an indicator of the social issues occurring in the setting of the story, movie, or even song. Last summer I reread “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee. This novel is famous for its warmth and humor, regardless of dealing with the serious issues of rape and racial inequality. We can identify three mayor social messages in this literacy piece. The coexistence of good and evil is the first message. Whether people are essentially good or evil is an important theme. The novel approaches this by hyperbolizing Scout and Jem's transition from a perspective of childhood innocence. The children believe people are good because they have never seen evil, in contrast to the perspective of the adults, who, having been exposed to evil, see the world and it’s imperfections and injustices. Tom Robinson and Boo Radley are not prepared for evil and in the end they are destroyed because of it. Atticus understood evil but never lost his faith and his belief in the human capacity for goodness. The Importance of a moral education is evident in the story and the delivers the second social message. The education of children is a central theme of the story. How children are taught to move from innocence to adulthood reappears throughout the novel. The scenes at school provide a direct counterpoint to Atticus’s successful education of his children. The novel’s conclusion about education is that the most important lessons are those of compassion and understanding. Finally, the existence of social inequality would be the third and the strongest of the social messages that the author wants to convey to the public. The different levels of society are portrayed in the book. Country farmers like the Cunningham’s are socially below the townspeople, while white trash like the Ewells rest below the Cunningham’s. The black community in Maycomb represent the lowest of social strata, resting even below the Ewells. These firm social divisions that make up so much of the adult world are revealed in the book to be both irrational and destructive. The author uses the children's bewilderment at the unpleasant layering of Maycomb society to critique the role of class status and eventually the prejudice in human interaction.
Well-written Paulina,

A social message is when a lesson is learned by any form of story or anecdote. Social messages may occur in books, movies, videos and through an oral narrated story or anecdote. I have learned many social messages through several books. Specifically, I ha learned a social message from the book Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech. From the book Walk Two Moons, I learn that one should never judge anyone without knowing that person well. A perfect quote from this book that explains this situation is "Don't judge a man until you've walked two moons in his moccasins." Before judging someone, one should put oneself in their moccasins or situation and see what one would do. This quote also means that before judging someone, one should know the person he is judging well. I have learned social messages from many movies. One movie that always stands out in my head is Across The Universe. Through the movie Across The Universe, which incorporate many songs of The Beatles, I’ve learn that that nothing is impossible if you have love and if you put love in your desires. Two great quotes that I follow a lot that taught me this social message were “There’s nothing you can do that can’t be done.” “ All You Need is Love.” I have learned a social message from a song “We Are The World For Haiti by 25 different artists. I have learned that one should try to make a difference by helping people who need our help. In this case, it is Haiti after the earthquake that we are helping. We can help by giving charity to the affected people. Some of the quotes that make me have a better idea of helping others are “We are the world, we are the children, We are the ones who make a brighter day, So let's start giving, There’s a choice we're making, We're saving our own lives, it's true we'll make a better day, Just you and me” and also We are the world, we are the children, We are the ones, who make a brighter, day, So let's start giving, There’s a choice we're making, We're saving our own lives it's true we'll make a better day; Just you and me”.
