This gives songs a unique magic; because whether their expressing feelings or telling a story like poems do, the effect of a melody or a rhythm gives it an extra meaning that goes beyond words.  In my opinion, songwriters are just like poets or even better. <br \/>\nThe song I chose definitely talks about a love from the past. The first verses are sung by a boy. These verses talk about this boy seeing a girl he used to date after some time. The boy tells someone introduced them thinking they didn\u2019t know each other, which is very ironic since they used to be a couple and when you share that kind of relationship with someone, you get to know them in ways no one knows them. Then he tells how they shared a cab together and he was very silent which made the girl believe he was sad, when actually, he was trying to \u201cremember her name\u201d. I think this is a figure of speech saying he was remembering all that they lived together, remembering all the memories: all that they were.  Or maybe he is trying to make us understand how he didn\u2019t care a lot about this girl. <br \/>\nThe rest of the song is sung by a girl. The girl basically tells us how she used to be really hurt by the way things ended, but that she is now over it. There is a verse that says: \u201cthe scar is a fleck on my porcelain skin\u201d letting us understand that even though, she is fragile as porcelain, the scar he left, is now healed and only shows of as a fleck. She then says, that this boy probably repents all the mistakes he made by seeing her again and realizing how beautiful she really is. That is somehow the idea that you love what you don\u2019t have anymore.  She also lets us understand that she gave in her heart completely and chose to feel all there is to feel when you fall in love. On the other hand, the boy was too scared to fall in love and chose to keep his distance, as many of us do just because we live in constant fear of getting hurt. With these verses: \u201c  I'll write you a postcard\/I'll send you the news\/ From a house down the road from real love...\u201d The girl is trying to portray the idea, that she will be able to find real love because she is willing to give in, but that the boy will never find this if he keeps building walls to \u201cprotect\u201d his heart.  Then, the girl explains how she experienced all the pain in order to move on and she expresses how she doesn\u2019t repent anything that happened between them, but that now everything is over and they have to accept it. <br \/>\n<br \/>\nThis song has so many meanings; it is so intense and full of emotion. It is very weird to see someone you were with after some time has passed, because you\u2019ve both changed and many times you discover that you have nothing in common anymore, that everything that brought you together is no longer part of any of you. At the same time, you start fantasizing of what could\u2019ve been. In my opinion, these verses: \u201cYou were what I wanted\/ I gave what I gave \/I'm not sorry I met you\/ I'm not sorry it's over\/ I'm not sorry there's nothing to save\u201d define what a breakup is about. When you breakup with someone, you don\u2019t have to feel guilty of all that happened, of all that you gave, because that probably shaped you and made you who you are. And though it can really hurt, most of the time it hurts because the relationship was worth it; you just have to understand that things end and sometimes you are left just with memories. It also tells us in some way, that if you are trying to find real love you have to give in completely to this person, to really open up; and though it may be scary and you may end up pretty hurt, it is all part of it.
